Information we need to remind ourselves of in 2023

Hello,

This week I came with an open letter. As we enter the new year quickly, I am here to remind once again my feelings and the ideology behind the collections we create.

Someone's waste is our resource and we act together with those people. Because if we don't act together, we won't have a future.

Do you remember? During Covid-19 quarantines, words such as slow living, sustainability, ecology and circular economy began to have a big place in our dictionaries. We were all scared, watching the world go by helplessly in our homes. We made promises to ourselves that we would create a better world. I'm sorry but I'm not always hopeful. As we enter 2023, I feel like these words have become obsolete and have even been removed from our dictionaries.

The word sustainability has lost its meaning, perhaps new ones have come to replace it.

I wonder if we have forgotten why we all made this word huge.

While all these thoughts, efforts, hopes and dreams were disturbing my sleep, I remembered again. Our past, our roots, were already living a sustainable life without ever using these words.

In every home in Anatolia, our elders pickle excess vegetables and fruits and transform their dishes. Grandmothers who were interested in animal husbandry would not throw away their wool, but would make quilts and knit sweaters from it.

Broken clothes and buttons were not thrown away, they were repaired.

Old clothes were given to the children of the family and neighbors.

Shoes that got too small were not thrown away, they were donated.

Every centimeter of every fabric taken home is evaluated. A suit is sewn from his dress to his hat. Dozens of clothes and fabrics were not purchased to make combinations.

Durability is more important than visuality.

It is said to have a long life. Bought once, worn a thousand times.

And many more.

We are nothing but our past. Yes. I have a problem. That is to bring what someone else posted to its best state. Not just to be trendy. Because it has a story, because we have to... Our aim is; So that the bags we design bring us together, so that pretentious words do not express what we want to say. To remember your past. So that we can be more respectful not only functionally but also emotionally. The real issue starts here. By changing our approach to every material we use. By respectfully remembering those who work behind it and those who create those fabrics.

I hope you look at every bag that reaches you with this eye and change your perspective.
